Workspace Wednesday: Static Zine Cover Design

Among many other things, my friend Jess is on of the wonderful ladies behind Static Zine, a collective zine that in each issue discusses a different topic - from food to mental health, and now with the most recent issue, love.

I was very excited when last month she got in touch with me to see if I was interested in designing the cover for the February issue, and having loved all the past issues I own of the zine, of course I could only say yes!

Now that the issue is out, I wanted to share the design with you. I went with a pretty simple one, to be honest, but I like the final result. What do you think?

Also, if you want to get one, they're only $2, and while you're at it, you should definitely check the past issues as well - they're really cool!

Workspace Wednesday: Sketchbook Update

Today I just wanted to share with you a couple illustrations I've one lately.

This one shows my go-to stationery supplies, although I somehow forgot to throw stickers in there, and if you know me, you'll know I love me some stickers. I'm thinking of turning this into a card, what do you think?

This one instead is the visual list I made when I was packing my carry-on bag for London; in the end I actually managed to fit way more stuff in there - mostly letter writing supplies and stationery, obviously ☺

Have you been drawing anything lately?

Spread the Love - Freebie!

As Valentine's Day is approaching, I thought I'd share a little illustrated card you can print at home ☺

I tried to avoid an overly romantic design, so that you can send it to friends and family as well.

If you print it out and share a picture, please don't forget to tag me on Instagram (@snailmaillove) I'd love to see! Also, don't forget to take a look at the free printable card I've made last year!

What are your plans for V's day?

Stationery Spotlight: even more handmade stickers!

As you may know, I've been really enjoying making stickers out of my illustrations, and a few days ago I decided to put them up for sale in my shop for a limited time before I close it for the holiday break, as a couple of people expressed interest in them.

At the moment, I came up with 15 different sets, and there's a little bit of everything for everyone.

I use them pretty much for everything: from mail art, to decorating the covers of my sketchbooks, and I have have a couple on my phone case ☺

If you're interested in getting a pack or two for you or a friend, you can find them here! (I also have a promotion going on until I close the shop for the holiday. You can use the code: SML10 at checkout to get 15% off any order, and for each three packs you buy, you get a lucky dip one for free β˜Ί)

How do you like to use your stickers?

Mailbox Monday: from/to the Netherlands

Last month I joined Jessica's Notebook + Pen Swap, and I ended up being paired by chance with my friend Janine! She sent me a huge parcel full of great things, and today I wanted to share them with you.

I don't remember exactly what I wrote as my preferences for the notebook when I joined the swap, but I'm pretty sure the one she sent me ticks all the boxes! As pens, she sent me two Pigma Micron, and I kind of gasped when I saw them as I always wanted to try them but they're really hard to find here.

It's been a while now, but I'm still very happy and grateful for all the thoughtfulness that went into it (and I'm also still dreaming of that chocolate bar.. wasn't it delicious!). Anyway, the least I could do was to send her a thank you card, and so I did!

I also sent her a little illustrated portrait of herself (she has very cool hair, don't you think?) and a little baggie of my handmade stickers ☺

Workspace Wednesday: strange girls

Although Halloween has been a few weeks ago now, I still wanted to share a few drawings I did inspired by some cool costumes I came across online.

It was mostly an excuse to practice coloring with my new markers than anything else as Halloween isn't really big here. Can you guess who's the gal dressed in black? β˜Ί Also, the poison bottle is available as stickers in my etsy shop!

I hope you're having a great week!

A Day in My Life: Illustrated!

Hi friends! Today for #DoMoreinOctober, I'm sharing with you what a day in my life looks like.

I decided to pick yesterday, as it was a pretty laid back day: I had to run a few errands, and not being the typical working day, it was a little bit more eventful!

I woke up at 8AM and logged the weather (it was cloudy), the temperature (15Β°C, ugh) and how I felt ("okay" + cold, but I'm always grumpy in the morning so it not an accurate representation of the whole day). I then had breakfast (porridge + banana, and a hot cup of matcha tea) while watching a morning show on YouTube and catching up with the news.

Next, it was time for a walk with Luna while listening to my new favourite song

At 10AM I met with my boyfriend and we went to pick up my thesis from the printer. So exciting to hold a physical copy of it! I decided to have it made with a silk red cover, and gold embossed text. β˜Ί The note on the lower right corner says that on my way back a little old man made me smile, so that was nice.

When I got home I started cooking, and tidying my room. For lunch I made some veggie curry with rice, very good - if I say so myself! Then it was time to work, which translates into doing some admin stuff, replying to emails, and working on the pending commissions I have at the moment. At 5PM it was my long awaited tea (& cookies) time, yum! Half an hour later, I went grocery shopping with my mother, and picked up an Amazon delivery on my way back.

Before heading to the gym at 7.30PM, I replied to a couple of letters and made this booklet. I got back home pretty knackered at 9.30PM, showered and ate dinner. In the meantime, my boyfriend managed to score preorder tickets for Star Wars: the Force Awakens, for us and a couple of friends. My day ended by playing some videogames (Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer - because I'm basically 8 years old - and Hearthstone), and catching up with Agents of Shield ☺

And that's it! It wasn't the most interesting day, I know, but I really enjoyed documenting it in this little booklet I made, and besides, it was a good drawing exercise as well!

Do you document your life in any way (scrapbook, project life.. etc)? β™₯

Do More of What Makes You Happy

I have a lot of favorite quotes, but if I had to choose a motto, that would be

do more of what makes you happy.

With work, or school, and the commitments of every day life, it's really easy to get swamped into a routine that makes it difficult to find the time for the simple things that makes us happy and that lighten and brighten our days.

It doesn't matter if it's only for a few hours a week, I think we should all take the time to do something we enjoy, whether it's simply reading a book, go to a cafΓ© with a friend, or even go hiking!

Sometimes the little things, no matter how small or trivial they may seem, can make a difference and add moments to our days that can make us smile.

Five things that I enjoy doing whenever I have a hole in my schedule are:

  • Doodle mindlessly in my personal sketchbook: I just doodle for the pleasure of doing it, no one has to see the outcome and it takes away all the pressure that comes with it, so it doesn't matter what I draw, as much as it matter that I draw for fun.
  • Baking & cooking: I cook lunch and dinner everyday, but most of the time I consider it a chore. I have things to do before and after supper, so I can't take as much time as I'd like for it. However, especially on the weekend, I enjoy spending time in the kitchen to prepare more articulated dishes, or even to treat myself and bake something!
  • Go for a tea or a coffee: both tea and coffee are essential to fuel my days, but I very rarely go out to a cafΓ© to enjoy one, and whenever I do, I always get a cookie and treat it like a special occasion.
  • Sing along to my favorite childhood songs: I have a playlist on Spotify where I collect all the cheesy pop punk songs I loved growing up. Sometimes, when I'm alone at home, I enjoy blasting them and singing along feeling like I'm 16 all over again.
  • Cuddle up in a blanket and read: a book and a blanket it's one of those combos made in heaven, and I try to cut out an hour every evening to enjoy it.

When you start thinking about it, there are so many small opportunities to do something that can make us even a tiny bit happier. Sometimes it's the little things that matters most, don't you think?

What's something simple you enjoy doing whenever you have a little bit of down time? I would love to hear them!
